How about creating a library for managing TV channels to go with Video4Linux? I mean a (user-space) library that will provide programs with knowledge about channels, channel names and frequencies etc. This info would be stored in a site/machine-wide config file (/usr/local/etc/tv-channels), and possibly also a per-user file (~/.tv-channels).
What do people think of this idea? And would someone who allready knows this channel/frequency stuff be willing to implement it? I guess it should be quite simple to extract and modify the relevant code from xawtv.

My 2 cent: In germany we a lot of people have cable. The Problem with cable is, that the frequencies are differ from each location. 50 kilometers away all frequencies could be totally different. The secound problem is, that the table is changes if a new programm start or an old programm stops. Last time it was not just a change from programm a to b, no it was a changing of 3 programms (no one knows why). If all regional channels change twice a year in germany it could result to a changing in the file every 2 weeks... Bloody German Telekom -- cYa, - -- Alain -- -
