Seltsam grosses faillog

Mir ist heute aufgefallen, dass ich ein seltsam grosses faillog mit kaum
inhalt auf meiner platte habe. Kann sich irgendwer erklaeren, WARUM dass
so gross ist, bzw, wie werden die daten da ueberhaupt reingeschrieben?

Normales faillog:
alex at XxX:~$ ls -l /var/log/faillog
-rw-r--r--   1 root     root        26712 Feb 18 17:10 /var/log/faillog

Mein faillog:
alex at joker:~# ls -l /var/log/faillog
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root      1572840 Apr 12 16:51 /var/log/faillog
alex at joker:~# file /var/log/faillog
/var/log/faillog: data
alex at joker:~# strings /var/log/faillog

Fuer'n 1.5MB file ziemlich wenig printable characters...

Wo also liegt der Hase im pfeffer? Oder is das doch normal? (Bei allen
anderen maschinen wo ich nachgeschaut habe, war es halt nur um 30kb
gross).
