postgres user authentication

Hi,
ich hab mir einen postgres user angelegt wie folgt:
postgres at twintower:~$ createuser -e -D -A -P -E andrel

Ich habe ihm ein Paßwort gegeben als ich gefragt wurde und der
User wurde angelegt, soweit alles klar. Dann der Test:
postgres at twintower:~$ psql -U andrel -W test
Password: 
psql: FATAL 1:  IDENT authentication failed for user "andrel"

Ich werde nach einem Paßwort gefragt, aber egal was ich eingebe,
es wird immer abgelehnt. Und um die Verwirrung komplett zu
machen:
andrel at twintower:~$ psql test
Welcome to psql, the PostgreSQL interactive terminal.

Drin. _Ohne_ Paßwort. Und das offenbar nur, weil der Name meines
Unixaccounts mit dem Postgres User übereinstimmt.

Kann mir jemand dieses bedenkliche Verhalten erklären?
