Hast du statt der höchst grafischen Tools wie jpilot und so mal
pilot-xfer probiert? Syntax für backup aus dem Kopf: 
pilot-xfer -u pilotbackupdir
Damit funzt es bei mir seit ewigen Zeiten unter allen
Distributionen, was anderes hab ich auch noch nie probiert
