postfix smtp_sasl_auth

Hi,
der Host, den ich gerne als Relay verwenden möchte
(mail.gmx.net) verlangt Authentifizierung nach rfc2554. In meiner
main.cf steht:
relayhost = mail.gmx.net
smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes
smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous
smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/smtp_passwords

und die smtp_passwords enthält:
mail.gmx.net	username:passwort

Das db File hab ich natürlich auch erzeugt. Trotzdem bekomme ich
keine Nachrichten raus:
(Authentication failed: cannot SASL authenticate to server
mail.gmx.net[213.165.64.20]: no mechanism available)

Laut der Doku, die ich gefunden hab, sollte das aber so gehen..
was mach ich also falsch?
