CPAN Problem

Ich habe hier auf einer SuSE 7.2 Box ein problem mit cpan. Wenn ich versuche 
den Index neu zu laden (oder was zu installieren) bekomme ich folgendes:
cpan> reload index
Fetching with LWP:
  ftp://ftp.perl.org/pub/CPAN/authors/01mailrc.txt.gz
Fetching with Net::FTP:
  ftp://ftp.perl.org/pub/CPAN/authors/01mailrc.txt.gz
Couldn't fetch 01mailrc.txt.gz from ftp.perl.org

Trying with "/usr/bin/lynx -source" to get
    ftp://ftp.perl.org/pub/CPAN/authors/01mailrc.txt.gz
Error reading from /root/.cpan/sources/authors/01mailrc.txt:


cpan>

Die datei ist aber lesbar (bin sowieso root) und enthaelt auch klar lesbare 
Daten !
Woran koennte das liegen ?
