Du kannst beim Bootprompt der Knoppix ziemlich viele Optionen
angeben. (Doku unter cheatcodes auf der CD)
Mit Angabe von 
knoppix 2
bekommst Du eine Knoppix ohne X Server und kannst dann
selber eine XF86Config-4 basteln.
Du könntest auch auf der Platte installieren und dann
weiter sehen.
