Ich weiss nicht ob tar das mag - Wenn du genuegend plattenplatz hast
versuch das tar erst als file auf die platte zu packen mit "dd"

dd if=/dev/rmt0 of=/plat/te/mit/viel/platz/my.tar noerror

Der liest dann mit dem noerror stumpf weiter - Ob tar das dingen
hinterher noch mag musst du mal probieren. Besser als nix.
