Backup / Split Compress

Hi,
weiss jemand eine Loesung fuer kompremierte tar multi-volumes auf Disk?

Tar kann ja Multivolume aber eben nicht auf Disk.

Und ein 

	tar -cvf - | gzip -2 | split -b 1G file.

Ist deshalb doof weil wenn ein file schrott ist alles weg ist.
Eigentlich will man erst splitten und dann compressen d.h.
jedes file einzeln kompremieren.

Das ganze dann bitte noch als pipe faehiges tool damit ich nicht
erst 500GB auf eine USB Platte schieben muss um es zu splitten und
compressen. Eigentlich sollte das gzip bandbreite auf dem USB Bus
sparen.
