ATI-Radeon X600 / fglrx / X-Server Problem

Guten Morgen!

Ich versuche mich (mal wieder) an der Linux-Installation auf meinem
Notebook (HP nx8220).
Aktuell ist der X-Server dran. Mit vesa-Treibern funkioniert alles
einwandfrei, (abgesehen davon das sich das Touchpad nach dem wechsel in
eine andere Konsole und dann zurück zur Graphischen oberfläche mittels
zB F2 -> F7 abschaltet, aber das ist ein anderes Thema).
Allerdings passieren aktuell noch so unschöne Sachen wie sehr "kantige"
Schriftarten, und vor allem ein unglaubliches "hängen" beim Scrollen zB
im Firefox oder Konqueror.
Also dachte ich mir gut - ein ATI-Teiber muss her.
Zu nächst habe ich die Installation (Ja, es ist wirklich eine) des
ATI-Treiber aus der Konsole versucht - sie schiesst beim Laden des
X-Server das gesamte Notebook kommentarlos ab. (Stillstand - Einzige
Lösung Hardreset)
Starte ich die Installation bei, dank vesa Treiber noch gestartetem
X-Server, läuft sie Fehlerfrei durch.
Der ati-config befehl, der die xorg.conf anpassen soll funktioniert zwar
dank eines Fehlers in Funktion xyz immer noch nicht, aber ich kann die
conf ja per Hand editieren.
Starte ich nun xdm startet sich wunderbar der X-Server, die Maus ist
bewegbar, es allerdings nicht mehr klickbar, der Cursor im Passwortfeld
bewegt sich nicht, Tastatur scheint völlig tod. (kein Konsolenswitch,
kein Three-FInger-Salut, lediglich die BEwegbare Maus, und ein nicht
reagierender Anmelde-Button).
Wiederum hilft nur der Hard-Reset.

Nun habe ich auf einer der gefühlt 2 Mio Seiten die ich durchgooglet
habe, das der ati-treiber (fglrx) sich garnicht mit einkompiliertem
DRM-Support verträgt.

Was passiert hier? Hinten dran noch was ich an Files für bauchbar hielt.
 (Da ich nicht wusste was aus der xorg.log wichtig war habe ich sie mal
komplett angehängt, hoffe das ist io)
